Genetic Engineering of Algae for bioethanol production from green house gases
[Australia] Helio Biotechnology Corp.
Our technology for the genetic engineering of algae for bioethanol production from green house gases consists of four parts: 1. Genetic Engineering of Algae for construction of Ethanol-producing strains; 2. Genome-Scale Metabolic Model for the Prediction of Cellular Behaviors; 3. Characterization and Optimization of Bioprocesses; and 4. Design of Photobioreactor Systems. The principle of the ethanol production by the genetically engineered algal strains utilizing carbon dioxide and solar energy is illustrated in Figure 1. Through the use of recombinant DNA and other techniques, we have rearranged the enzymatic, transport, and regulatory functions for the cells, so that a direct coupling of solar energy conversion, carbon fixation with ethanol production has been made.
