International Experts Gather to Talk about Low Carbon Economy and Emission Trading

——Shenzhen International Workshop on Renewable Energy and Investment Held in Shenzhen

On the occasion of the 11th China High Tech Fair, Shenzhen International Workshop on Renewable Energy and Investment was solemnly held in Huaxia Hall, Wuzhou Hotel on November 17, 2009, with the theme “Low Carbon Economy and Emission Trading”. The event was aimed to encourage enterprises to invest in clean energy and technologies to improve the efficiency of energy utilization, and to explore new modes of economic economy development.

Policy makers from domestic and foreign governmental institutions, renowned universities and research institutions in the field of renewable energy, investment and financing institutions, famous enterprises and media participated in the grand event. The workshop was chaired by Gao Zimin, general manager of Shenzhen Energy Group, and chairman of UNIDO-ITPC. Chen Siping, Vice chairman of Shenzhen Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and Madam Liang Dan, Director of Investment and Technology Promotion Branch of UNIDO participated in the workshop and addressed the meeting.

The workshop was directed by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Shenzhen Municipal Government, BOAO Forum for Asia, China Renewable Energy Society, China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges, Nuremberg Chamber of Commerce (IHK), Shenzhen Energy Group Co., Ltd., and was organized by UNIDO-Shenzhen International Technology Promotion Center for Sustainable Development (UNIDO-ITPC) and China Hi-Tech Property Exchange.

Under the destruction of global economy by the financial crisis, the transformation of economic development mode has been lifted to an unprecedented height. Low carbon economy, based on low energy consumption, low pollution and low emission will become the main flow in the future. Renewable energy technologies have provided technical supports to the development of low carbon economy. The launch and implementation of emission trading program will encourage enterprises to invest in clean energy and technologies to improve the efficiency of energy utilization, so as to offer long-lasting momentum to the development of low carbon economy. In the workshop, experts from home and abroad in the field of low carbon economy, emission trading and clean energy gather to exchange views about the latest research findings and practical experiences.

UNIDO-Shenzhen International Technology Promotion Center for Sustainable Development (UNIDO-ITPC), supported by Shenzhen Energy Group, has successfully held “International Workshop on Renewable Energy and Investment” for four times during the China High Tech Fair since 2004, and has made significant contributions to the promotion of the utilization of clean energy, the development of renewable energy technologies and their industrialization investment. UNIDO-ITPC has played an important role in supporting Shenzhen Municipal Government to develop “recycling economy” and to realize the goal of energy conservation and emission reduction. It has also served as diverse platform to encouraging enterprises to invest in clean energy and explore the methods to scale up the renewable energy industry.
