Vice Consul General Ashley Brady visited ITPC
May 26 th, 2009, Ashley Brady, Vice Consul General of U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou visited Shenzhen Energy Group and Shenzhen International Technology Promotion Center for Sustainable Development (ITPC). Mr. Gao Zimin, Board Chairman of Shenzhen Energy Group and Director of ITPC, Dr. Yu Yuanqi, Deputy Director of ITPC, and Yu Jing, Director of Power Assets Management Department of Shenzhen Energy Group held talks with Vice Consul General Brady and discussed how to promote energy and environmental protection technologies developments, the potential of cooperation between China and U.S. in this area and so on.
Director Gao Zimin said as a leading large state-owned energy enterprise, Shenzhen Energy Group has always hold on to the strategic guideline combining development and environmental protection, achieving outstanding results in energy and environment aspects over years. By introducing seawater fuel gas desulphurization from ABB, a Norwegian company, Shenzhen Energy Group became the first in China to carry out desulphurization in the production of all of its electric power plants. In the waste disposal area, the group introduced the advanced waste incineration and flue gas cleaning technologies of Seghers Belgium and localized it. Up to now, three waste-to-power plants have been built in Shenzhen with daily processing capacity of over 2450 tonnes. Meanwhile, the group is devoted to developing natural gas power plants which is considered as a clean power source. It established and invested in the production of eastern LNG power plant as well as promoting subordinate oil power plants oil-to-gas transform project. In the area of renewable resources, the group actively develops wind power industry and is now constructing large scale wind power plant projects in Tongliao and Manzhouli in Inner Mongolia.
Further more, Shenzhen Energy Group emphasis the promotion of international communication, pushing environmental-friendly technologies to transfer from developed countries and enter developing countries. In 2001, Shenzhen Energy Group, together with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), BOAO Forum for Asia, China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges and other units co-sponsored the creation of Shenzhen International Technology Promotion Center for Sustainable Development (ITPC), making it a platform for energy and environmental technology transfers, partnership, policy dialogue and exchange of experience between North-South and South-South countries. To fulfill the mission, ITPC has organized many global technology promoting activities which includes the annual Global Top Ten Investment Scenarios to Apply New Technologies for Renewable Energy Utilization BlueSky Award, Shenzhen International Workshop on Renewable Energy Technology and Investment (RETI), BlueSky Ranking on Renewable Energy Industry in China and European EnergyManager Certificate China Training Program. Thanks to the platform, outstanding technologies are able to be exhibited which provide chance for patent holders and financial institutions to communicate face-to-face, pushing forward communications and cooperation in the renewable energy area. Quite a few winning technologies of the BlueSky Award successfully acquired financing and entered Chinese market. For example, the hydrodynamic screw technology from Germany is applied in rural areas in China and synthetic fuels from biomass technology settled in Shandong province.
Vice Consul General Brady showed recognition to the achievements Shenzhen Energy Group and ITPC have made in environmental protection and renewable energy areas. She also said that the U.S. government also takes energy, environment and climate changing problems very seriously, especially the new U.S. government which has made promoting renewable energy a part of schedule as an important means to restore the economy. There being long-term friendly cooperating relationship between China and U.S., U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou will be pleased to build bridge for partnership between Chinese and U.S. firms in the energy and environment area.
Shenzhen Energy Group and ITPC expressed willingness to work together with U.S. renewable resources and energy saving enterprises and learn from the excellent energy policies and technologies of the U.S.
